SLIPPERY ROCK, PA MARCH 24TH- I decided to complete my two-hour challenge by interviewing the owner and head chef of Slippery Rock's newest restaurant: Mixtape Street Eats.
Check out the interview below with Adam Christy. Quite a fascinating story of tragedy & triumph.
Ever since the grand opening in August of 2021, Mixtape has become a favorite spot for slippery rock students. However, the restaurant is still relatively new so it is a constant struggle to build a loyal customer following.
Mixtape features a unique menu that you will not be able to find anywhere else in the area. Some of the dishes include Mahi-mahi tacos, funnel cake fries, Cuban sandwiches, house-made chips & queso, gyros, and much more. All of these are uniquely named which adds a little bit of humor as well.
As Adam described in my interview, he wants to keep changing the menu and is open to any suggestions. His goal is to bring something refreshing and unique to a student population that does not have many dining options available. Adam was inspired by his love for cooking and music, so he incorporated both of these interests into his own restaraunt.
The restaurant itself is located right next to campus side apartments and just up the road from The Grove. It actually used to be home to another local favorite called Simplified Meals By Ginger, which has since moved locations.
The theme of Mixtape is exactly what it sounds like. The atmosphere is full of early hip-hop and rock n'roll, while the music plays in the kitchen. There is even a full wall right below the main counter that has all sorts of different cassette tapes.

There is even a vintage Pacman machine where customers can play while they wait for their food. There is a bonus incentive as well where if a customer sets a new high score they get a free meal!

Overall, I am hoping that Mixtape is successful and stays around as this is the best food option SRU has ever had. A very unique setup, excellent food, amazing atmosphere, and wonderful people who I am rooting for. Check it out for yourself Tuesday through Saturday from 11-9!
